Parcel Forwarding Costs: Weight, Packing and Quote Checklist

AMABOXLY · US SHOPPING & FORWARDING GUIDES

Compare forwarding quotes using the same packed parcel and destination. The weight of the item alone does not tell you the international shipping cost: the box, route, billing rules and services also matter.

Collect the shipment inputs

Send the product link, contents, quantity, paid value, destination country and postcode, scale weight and outer box dimensions. Tell Amaboxly about batteries, liquids, aerosols, fragile contents or other special handling needs before purchase.

Product-page measurements may describe the product rather than its shipping carton. A seller estimate is useful for planning; the actual packed measurements are needed to confirm the shipment quote. Record each box separately if the retailer dispatches several parcels.

Understand actual and dimensional weight

Actual weight is the packed parcel’s scale weight. Dimensional or volumetric weight converts the space occupied by the box into a billing weight. The route’s rules determine the divisor, minimum billing, rounding and which weight is charged.

Amaboxly’s published Malaysia forwarding terms use the higher of actual and dimensional weight: length × width × height in inches ÷ 166 gives pounds; multiply pounds by 0.4536 to obtain kilograms. Minimum billing is 1 kg, and weights between listed price tiers use the next tier.

Malaysia illustration: a box measuring 16 × 12 × 10 inches has a dimensional weight of about 11.57 lb, or 5.25 kg. If its scale weight is 3 kg, the dimensional figure is higher; under the published whole-kilogram rate tiers, use the 6 kg tier when estimating freight. This is an example, not a shipment quote.

For other countries, confirm the route’s calculation rather than reusing Malaysia’s formula. DHL’s published calculator guidance, for example, uses a standard divisor of 5,000 with centimetres and kilograms. A carrier example does not mean that carrier or divisor is available for your Amaboxly shipment.

Balance box size and protection

A compact box may reduce dimensional weight, but protecting the item matters too. Ask which packaging must stay, whether repacking is available and what it costs. Do not remove cushioning, protective inserts or fragile-item packaging simply to chase a lower weight.

Keep valuable items protected from heavier items. State if retail boxes, collector packaging, tags, accessories or gift presentation must be preserved. Confirm whether any requested check or photo is available and included in the quote.

Ask before combining parcels. Consolidation is not automatically available or free, and a larger combined box may change the billable weight or handling requirements. Compare separate and combined quotes only when the proposed packing and charges are known.

Compare all applicable charges

  • Product cost and any US retailer delivery charge.
  • Purchase assistance, if requested and confirmed.
  • International freight and route-specific surcharges or handling.
  • Destination delivery and any postcode-related charge.
  • Import duties, taxes and clearance charges where applicable.
  • Payment or currency conversion charges and any storage, packing, collection or return service used.

Mark each amount as included, additional, not applicable or still unconfirmed. Do not add two numbers that already include the same service. The Malaysia calculator estimates that market’s freight; read its separate delivery and service terms as well.

New Hampshire has no general state sales tax, but this does not remove international freight or destination import charges. Check the actual retailer checkout and the import treatment in your quote.

Plan delivery and fragile-item risk

Separate the retailer’s dispatch estimate, US domestic delivery, receiving and processing, international transit, customs and final delivery. A carrier transit estimate is not the complete time from clicking buy to receiving an item. Ask for the estimate and its starting point for your route.

For a gift or sale purchase, give Amaboxly your required arrival date before buying. Confirm retailer stock, dispatch timing and route availability. Do not treat a seasonal promotion or a competitor’s express estimate as an Amaboxly delivery promise.

Amaboxly does not sell freight insurance. Ask about shipment risk before sending fragile or valuable goods and review the applicable terms and any separately arranged cover. A condition check or extra packing does not guarantee that an item cannot be damaged.

Final quote request: “Contents [details], quantity [number], paid value [amount], boxes [number], packed weight [kg], outer dimensions [units], destination [country/postcode], arrival target [date], required packing [details]. Please confirm acceptance, billable weight, all charges, included services, timing and shipment-risk terms.”
